According to the publication la Prência.

A massive gas explosion occurred in Madrid, the capital of Spain, on September 13, causing injuries to at least 25 people. Three of them are in serious condition.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Manuel Maroto Street in the Puente de Vallecas neighborhood. The explosion damaged a bar and a neighboring residential building, which required the urgent evacuation of residents due to the threat of structural collapse.

According to local residents, the apartment where the explosion occurred was occupied by a couple who had recently completed renovations. The preliminary cause of the accident is a gas leak, which was evidenced by a strong smell before the explosion.

The scattered fragments destroyed part of the entrance to the house and the wall of a neighboring bar, as well as hit a passing car. Eyewitnesses noted that at the time of the explosion in the bar there were many people who immediately rushed to help the victims.

The Madrid firefighters arrived at the scene and manually removed the rubble because of the risk of collapse of the building. The condition of the three-storey building, where 11 families live, is being checked to assess possible damage.

Emergency services said on social media that the victims will be provided with temporary housing and an official investigation into the causes of the incident is underway.

There are 18 firefighting units, including a canine service, as well as police with drones working to deal with the aftermath, authorities said. Rescuers continue to survey the area and ensure the safety of residents in the neighborhood.
