India And China To Resume Direct Air Service

  • 31.08.2025, 17:47

After a five-year hiatus.

India and China will resume direct air service that has been absent for more than five years. According to Bloomberg, the plans were announced during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which opened in China's Tianjin on August 31. Exact dates for the resumption of flights have not yet been announced.

The trip to the SCO summit was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit to China in seven years. Modi and Chinese President Si Jinping also said they will work to resolve border differences and strengthen cooperation between the nations, the Associated Press reported.

The relationship between Beijing and New Delhi has deteriorated since bloody border clashes between the Chinese and Indian militaries in 2020. However, media reports have recently reported the countries' rapprochement amid the trade war launched by US President Donald Trump.

Earlier in August, Chinese diplomatic chief Wang Yi visited New Delhi. This came amid Trump's decision to impose 50 percent duties on Indian goods over India's oil purchases from Russia.
