Belarus Is Left Without Nurses

  • 3.08.2025, 19:56

There is a shortage of at least 40 thousand mid-level specialists.

The health care system of Belarus lacks at least 40 thousand mid-level specialists, who have received specialized education, but do not work in their specialty. This is written by "White Coats".

According to the National Statistics Committee, from 1991 to 2019, medical schools and colleges in Belarus trained more than 129 thousand mid-level specialists. Most of them were not yet due to retire by 2025, and therefore could work in the system.

But according to the Social Security Fund, by the end of 2023, about 99 thousand people with relevant education were working in state health care institutions. Of these, only about 87% - until retirement age, that is, about 86 thousand people.

Comparing these 86 thousand with 129 thousand trained specialists, it becomes clear that at least 40 thousand people left the profession long before retirement. And this is without taking into account those who received their diplomas in 2020-2023.

We would like to remind that since 2020 the Ministry of Health has stopped publishing detailed statistics on nursing staff.
