Since July 7, Polish border guards have checked more than 493,000 people.
Poland is extending border controls with Lithuania and Germany for another 60 days - until October 4. Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kerwiński reminded a press conference on August 3 that the relevant decree was submitted for notification to the European Commission on Friday, according to «Польское радио».
"In September, we will make further decisions based on the data we will receive from the Border Guard Service, the army and the police," Kerwiński said. The head of the Interior Ministry emphasized that the priority now is to block the migration route, which has shifted from Belarus to Lithuania and Latvia.
Marcin Kerwiński also thanked all the services involved in the operation for exemplary coordination and good cooperation.
From July 7 to date, the Border Guard Service has checked more than 493 thousand people at the borders with Lithuania and Germany. General Robert Bagan, commander-in-chief of the Border Guard Service, told a meeting at the Interior Ministry building that more than 279,000 people have been checked at the border with Germany and almost 214,000 with Lithuania.
In this period, 185 foreigners were denied entry to Poland. In most cases, the reason for the refusal was the lack of documents authorizing the crossing of the border. At the border with Germany 124 persons were refused entry, with Lithuania - 61.
Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak assured that controls at the borders with Germany and Lithuania do not cause serious traffic difficulties.
Because of the temporary restoration of control, the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways had to reorganize traffic at several dozen border crossings and roads.
Control at the borders with Germany and Lithuania was restored on 7 July.
