France and Germany will provide Ukraine with more air defense systems and work more closely on security.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly issued a statement following the 25th Franco-German Ministerial Council in Toulon.

The joint statement includes commitments to begin a strategic dialogue on nuclear deterrence and a broader security policy link between the two countries.

There is a commitment to provide more air defense systems to Ukraine.

"France and Germany will provide Ukraine with additional air defenses," the statement said.

It also noted that "despite intensive international diplomatic efforts, Russia has shown no intention of ending its war of aggression against Ukraine."
