West Prepares Strong Security Guarantees For Ukraine

A coalition of the willing, led by London and Paris, is working with the US to create security guarantees for Ukraine. The aim is to ensure a stable peace in the country after the ceasefire and make it a long-term one.

EU High Representative for External Relations and Security Policy Kaja Kallas emphasized that future guarantees must be credible and reliable.

"Future security guarantees for Ukraine must be credible and reliable. Ukraine must be able to rely on the West to ensure peace. The Kremlin, however, must clearly understand that violating the ceasefire will lead to serious reactions from Ukraine's allies," she said.

According to Kallas, it is not enough to only monitor the ceasefire. For the guarantees to be credible, the West must send a well-equipped peacekeeping force capable of self-defense.

At the same time, a strong Ukrainian army will remain the first line of defense.

"The security guarantees must be strong enough to deter Russia from attacking Ukraine again. 2022 must not be repeated," she added.

Callas also emphasized that the West must strengthen sanctions and supply Ukraine with the necessary weapons to deny the Kremlin the ability to continue the war.
