The government will officially start work after the parliament approves the new program.

On Tuesday, August 26, the Lithuanian Seimas approved the candidacy of Social Democrat Inga Ruginenė for the post of prime minister.

The LRT writes about it.

The Lithuanian Seimas approved Ruginenė's candidacy for the post of prime minister after the Lithuanian Social Democrats signed an agreement the day before to form a new coalition government with the Zarya Neman party and the Union of Lithuanian Farmers, Greens and Christian Families faction.

As noted, under the Lithuanian Constitution, the prime minister is appointed by the president with the consent of the Seimas. President Gitanas Nauseda had already nominated Ruginenė for the post of prime minister in the previous session, and now the Seimas has approved it: 78 Seimas members voted in favor, 35 against, and 14 abstained.

Formally, Ruginenene will become prime minister when the president issues a decree on the prime minister and she takes the oath of office in the Seimas.

Ruginenene will have 15 days to submit her government program for a vote in the Seimas. The government will officially start working after the parliament approves the new program.
