Path to new disasters: Sukhoi Superjet found to have defects in fuselage design

Western partners have stopped supplying components for the production of these airliners.

At once 14 Sukhoi Superjet 100 airplanes were found to have design flaws in the fuselage attachment. This is reported by The Moscow Times.

The problems concern the fastening between the cockpit and the front doors of the airplanes. The defective airliners are flown by Yamal, Rossiya, Azimut and other airlines.

According to experts, the planes may develop cracks, deformations and creases in the problem area of the fuselage during operation. If the inspection confirms the reported difficulties, these aircraft may be removed from flights for repair.

Reminder, Sukhoi Superjet 100 is the only serial Russian passenger airplane, which was developed after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

European companies took part in its creation. The airplane was produced in 2007-2022 - about 230 machines of this type were built. Since 2022, an "import-substituted" version of the Sukhoi Superjet has been under active development.

New Russian airliners

The main hope of the Russian civil aircraft industry today is the project of the short-to-medium-haul MS-21. The production of the airplane has been constantly postponed - now the serial delivery is scheduled for 2026. Today they are testing a prototype airliner equipped with new Russian systems and units.

One of the main problems of the MS-21 is called too high price - according to some reports, the plane will cost more than competitors from Boeing and Airbus.
