The move is aimed at attracting a younger audience.

The White House has officially launched a TikTok account. The move is aimed at attracting a younger audience, but the decision has already sparked a new wave of controversy over the app's security and China's influence.

It was reported by Reuters.

The White House has officially launched a TikTok account to communicate directly with Americans through the popular app, which is used by more than 170 million people in the United States.

You bet, US President Donald Trump has long been sympathetic to TikTok, as he considers it a key factor in his victory over Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump's personal campaign account @realdonaldtrump once amassed more than 15 million followers. So the White House's new official channel is designed to amplify its audience reach.

President Donald Trump's first video on the new @whitehouse account with the caption "America, we're back! What's new, TikTok?" was accompanied by the head of state saying, "I am your voice."

Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said the administration is committed to "bringing Trump's historic successes to as many people and on as many platforms as possible."

The move, however, has caused concern in Washington.

Trump was reminded that in 2024, Congress passed a law that required TikTok to cease operations in the U.S. by Jan. 19, 2025, unless Chinese company ByteDance sold the app to U.S. investors. Despite this, since entering his second term, Trump has postponed the law three times - first to April, then to June and finally to September.

Critics see this as ignoring threats to national security. According to U.S. intelligence estimates, TikTok could potentially be used by China to collect data and influence public opinion in the United States.

Despite the scandals, the White House is betting on TikTok as a platform to directly influence young voters and compete with traditional media.

Trump, for his part, is negotiating a deal with U.S. investors that would address these risks.
