The mechanism will avoid time-consuming procedures.
The United States and NATO countries are working on a new system for supplying weapons to Ukraine.
According to Reuters, citing several anonymous sources, the plan involves using allied funds to finance the transfer or purchase of U.S. arms, bypassing lengthy procedures.
Focusing on Kiev's priorities
The new support model is based on a list of Ukraine's priority needs, known by the abbreviation The allies, under the coordination of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, then allocate among themselves who will provide specific weapons or pay for their purchase.
A European official said the scheme is aimed at the ultimate goal of transferring up to $10 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine.
"This is the starting point and we are aiming for this ambitious goal. We are now moving in that direction," the Reuters interlocutor told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
The entire Alliance
The senior NATO official said it was a voluntary initiative, but all member states were expected to participate.
This is the first step toward systemic military support for Ukraine, which has been waging a fierce defensive war against Russian aggression since 2022.
Sources specify: the new system allows bypassing bureaucratic procedures for approving the supply of American weapons, which is especially important against the background of the need to urgently replenish the reserves of the AFU.
But at the same time, NATO countries must pay Washington in advance for the cost of restoring arsenals. According to the agency, negotiations on the first tranche are already underway, although there is no exact data on the funds listed yet.
