As early as this week.
U.S. President Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and European leaders on Monday, August 18, to discuss the terms of a potential peace deal he negotiated with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
According to Bloomberg.
While the United States is expected to focus on territorial concessions demanded by Moscow, Kiev is expected to seek to lock in possible security guarantees, a source told the agency.
European allies are anxious because their ability to counter Trump's demands, which Ukraine may reject, is limited. They are also skeptical that the Kremlin really wants peace. At the same time, Donald Trump is eager to reach a quick peace deal, but did not clarify exactly how.
In a phone call, the US president told Zelensky and European leaders that he was open to US involvement in providing security guarantees, Bloomberg wrote, citing knowledgeable sources. He also said he wanted to reach an agreement quickly and would urge Ukraine to agree to it, with the aim of holding a meeting between Putin and Zelensky within a week.
