He will meet with Trump today.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has arrived in Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump.
"Already arrived in Washington. Tomorrow (August 18 - ed) a meeting with President Trump. Tomorrow we will also talk with European leaders. I am grateful to the President of the United States for the invitation," his message on Telegram said.
Zelensky said we all equally want a quick and secure end to this war, but the peace must be long-lasting.
"Not like it was years ago, when Ukraine was forced to give up Crimea and part of our East - part of Donbass - and Putin used it simply as a springboard for a new attack. Or when Ukraine was given sort of 'security guarantees' in 1994, but it didn't work," he said.
"Ukrainians are fighting for their land, for their independence. Now our warriors have successes in Donetsk and Sumy regions. I am confident we will protect Ukraine, effectively guarantee security, and our people will always be grateful to President Trump, everyone in America, every partner, for their support and invaluable assistance. Russia must end this war, which it itself started," he said.
With the Ukrainian leader, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will also arrive for talks with US President Donald Trump, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
