German authorities are preparing more than 60 military purchases for approval by the Bundestag by the end of 2025, including the purchase of 20 Eurofighter fighter jets, up to 5,000 Boxer APCs and at least 3,500 Patria APCs.
This was reported on July 29 by Bloomberg citing its own sources.
According to the information, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius informed Bundestag deputies on July 28 that the governments plans to turn the Bundeswehr into Europe's strongest conventional army.

"That annual target is to be reached by 2029, well ahead of NATO's goal of increasing military spending to 3.5 percent of gross domestic product by 2035," Bloomberg writes.
The growth of defense spending became possible after the ruling coalition led by Friedrich Merz agreed to exempt them from constitutional restrictions on borrowing and create a special fund for 500 billion euros. It is planned to be filled with money earmarked for roads, railways, power grids and schools, the agency writes.
Bloomberg's sources said Germany's defense spending will focus heavily on Europe. Chancellor Merz wants to place orders with regional manufacturers - in an effort to make European countries more independent of the U.S. defense-industrial complex.
Bearing in mind Europe's dependence on the U.S. in the military satellite communications industry via, Germany plans to invest more than 15 billion euros in upgrading its similar infrastructure in the coming years, the agency's sources added.
The purchase of 20 Eurofighter fighter jets - worth an estimated 3 billion euros - will feature prominently among Berlin's military purchases, they said.
