Losses could reach nine figures.
Russian airline Aeroflot has suffered serious financial losses due to a large-scale failure in its IT infrastructure caused by a hacker attack.
Sources of the Russian edition RBC in the field of air transportation estimate that the company could lose at least 250 million rubles in just one day due to the forced cancellation of flights to Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport. The real losses could be greater.
Based on calculations of the cost of a one-way ticket (about 20 thousand rubles) and the average capacity of an airplane with 120 seats, one canceled flight costs the company about 2.4 million rubles. Taking into account the number of flights that had to be canceled in a day, the losses could reach 259 million rubles.
Other sources, however, do not rule out that the total losses are much higher - taking into account unsold tickets, losses from unfulfilled transportation, as well as the cost of restoring IT-systems. According to Alexander Lanetsky, CEO of Friendly Avia Support, the real amount of losses for July 28 alone could exceed half a billion rubles.
