The French president also promised to step up aid to Ukraine.

President Emmanuel Macron has declared France's readiness to increase aid to Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia. He said this in a conversation with Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I spoke with the president [Zelensky]. I reaffirmed France's support: we will continue to strengthen our assistance to Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia," Macron wrote in his X.

The French leader believes that under pressure, Moscow will agree to a ceasefire. Then it will be possible to count on a long-term peace "with the full participation of Europe," Macron said.

Zelensky and Macron spoke by phone on July 27. The Ukrainian president later said that the politicians discussed, among other things, the outcome of the third round of direct talks between Moscow and Kiev in Istanbul, which took place on July 23.
