The Washington Post: Germany Transferred Three Patriot Systems To Ukraine

At issue are the deliveries that Trump has promised under a new European aid funding scheme for Ukraine.

Germany has transferred three Patriot systems to Ukraine within the framework of the new scheme of US aid to Ukraine, when US weapons for the AFU are paid for by European countries.

This is reported by The Washington Post (translated by "Unian") with reference to unnamed officials.

It is noted that Ukraine hopes to receive a total of 10 Patriot systems under the new scheme. At a meeting of Ukraine's allies on Monday, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said without going into details that Berlin would "facilitate the provision" of five Patriot systems. And the journalists' interlocutors said that three systems have already been handed over, and Germany is now negotiating with the U.S. to send another.

The remaining Patriot batteries could come from outside NATO, The Washington Post notes. Thus, the Swiss Defense Ministry says that the United States will redirect five Patriot systems that the country ordered from the U.S. manufacturer to Ukraine, and the Swiss will receive the ordered systems later.

It is expected that in addition to air defense systems, Ukraine will receive radars and electronic warfare systems, drone interceptors and artillery under this scheme. Two officials familiar with the plans told the publication.

European defense ministers reportedly held a virtual meeting this week with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and NATO's commander-in-chief for Europe, General Alexus Hrynkiewicz, to discuss the plans.

Discussion also continues over providing Ukraine with long-range missiles. Germany has already said it will not supply Taurus cruise missiles. According to The Washington Post, NATO diplomats have not ruled out the possibility that the United States will provide its missiles, although Trump has already said he is "not seeking to do so."
