Media: Israeli Military Wants To Create Buffer Zones On All Borders

Details.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) High Command held a special session on July 22 for the first time in two years for a strategic review of security challenges. This is reported by The Jerusalem Post.
One of the most important conclusions was that from now on, all of Israel's borders must have a buffer zone. So far, Israel has managed to accomplish this in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Lebanon. A less clear buffer zone exists with Egypt and Jordan, although Jerusalem has a peace agreement with these two countries. In addition, provisions in the 1978 agreements between Egypt and Israel deter the deployment of Egyptian military forces near the border.
The military said that unlike events before the Oct. 7 attack, it will meet most of its defensive needs with a preemptive attack. Currently, IDF forces in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Lebanon periodically attack potentially hostile forces to prevent them from recreating the greater threat they posed before the war.
In addition, the military decided that in the future, it is necessary to establish different definitions of success for different fronts and adversaries. For example, while before October 7, 2023, it was believed that decisively defeating any of Israel's enemies was impossible and the maximum the IDF could do was to fight on a limited scale to restore deterrence, the army is now striking harder against all of its enemies. The IDF's goal is now to completely thwart any attempt by Hamas to rebuild a military base in the Gaza Strip.
