To help Ukraine.
Germany will receive the next U.S. air defense systems following Trump's announcement that allies will pay for additional weapons for Ukraine.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has moved Germany ahead of Switzerland in the queue to receive the next Patriot air defense systems. This is according to the Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing US officials.
It is noted that this will potentially allow Berlin to send two existing Patriot systems to Ukraine.
The Swiss government said that the US "decided to reprioritize the delivery of Patriot ground-based air defense systems" in order to increase support for Ukraine. Switzerland previously bought five Patriot systems and was expected to receive them between 2026 and 2028, but the timing of the deliveries is now unclear.
The publication writes that this is the first known instance of the administration facilitating an acceleration of arms deliveries to Ukraine since Trump this month began saying he agreed to new arms deliveries to Kiev.
Reuters writes that there is no official confirmation of the decision at this time.
