Polish Foreign Minister: We Admire Belarusians Who Challenged The Regime

Radosław Sikorski promised to support changes in our country.

The Kosciuszko Forum, organized by the Polish Foreign Ministry, has begun in Gdansk, Poland. Representatives of Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Sweden and the Belarusian opposition are taking part in the conference.

During the official opening, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski emphasized that the figure of Tadeusz Kosciuszko continues to be a source of inspiration for people fighting for freedom, dignity and respect for human rights.

“Not only is the figure of our patron symbolic, but also the place where we are, the European Solidarity Centre. The Gdansk shipyard is not only the cradle of the Polish independent trade union Solidarity, the first mass anti-communist movement, but also the source of changes that have taken place before our eyes on the entire European continent,” the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

He also noted that the Kosciuszko Forum adheres to the idea of international solidarity.

“We are convinced that without a free, independent, democratic Belarus, political transformations in Eastern Europe will remain incomplete,” Sikorski said.

He also stated that Poland has consistently provided and will continue to provide assistance to Belarusian independent initiatives.

“In recent years, Belarusians have proven that they are ready to live in a free homeland, paying a high, sometimes the highest price for it. We admire the determination and courage of those who challenged and sacrificed their interests, and often their health and life, in the fight for the Belarusian cause,” the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
