The signal went off during the Russian Federation's attack against Ukraine.
The Lubart County in Poland's Lubelskie Voivodeship has officially explained the reasons for the morning activation of air-raid sirens, which turned out to be false.
According to RMF24.
A statement released by county officials called the incident the result of "human error" and unverified information.
Sirens sounded around 05:30 a.m. Dec. 6 after the county crisis center reported an "immediate air threat" to Lubart County.
Employees immediately relayed the recommendation to turn on the sirens in nine municipalities: Lubart, Ostrow-Lubelski, Uscimów, Firlej, Michow, Kamionka, Abramów, Jezerzany and Niedzwieda.
After the center's staff arrived at the district administration and further verified the information with the Provincial Crisis Center in Lublin, however, it became clear that the threat report was not confirmed.
"The aforementioned error was caused by human error," the statement said.
The officer on duty at the voivodship center found no indication of a possible aerial attack. Local communities were then instructed to cancel the alert by re-activating the sirens.
County officials said the false alert was not based on official data from the provincial services, but came from an unverified streaming source. The county administrator has been notified in response to the incident.
The incident comes amid a massive Russian strike on regions of Ukraine that has seen Poland raising its air force.
