The whole Lithuanian town was catching him.
Around midnight, residents of Lithuania's Kaunas shared information about the capture of the suspect in the double murder of Benas Mikutavicius. The whole town was catching him.
People on the Zello app created a channel called "Raskime žudiką" (Let's find the killer). Such an appeal interested Kaunas residents, Delfi.lt reports.
Around 24:00 local time, Kaunas residents reported the arrest of a suspect on Kalneču Street. The police informed Delfi that this was true. The suspect was reportedly apprehended at 23:50.
In the mobile app Zello, Kaunas residents described how Mikutavičius was apprehended. "Everyone started shouting that they found him, that they saw him at the Viada gas station, near the restaurant. Everyone quickly went there, ran. And sure enough, it was him. I don't know how true it is, but they say that first some girl in a car hit him, then some guys jumped on him and hit him on the head," people said.
Mikutavicius had a large knife in his backpack. The app also shares that groups of people patrolled the neighborhood all day looking for the suspect.
"Apartments, dorms, abandoned parks and buildings. When they noticed the suspect, he rushed to run, jumped over the fence, women caught and put down, called the police," the group wrote.
On the scene, one participant in the search told Delfi the details. "Everyone shared where they were, and some woman said that in this park, on Kalneču Street, she noticed a suspicious man in a red jacket.
She increased the pace, the man rushed to run. We went there too <...>; he was already lying on the ground. They said they found a telescopic baton and a knife in his possession. One of the participants of the detention "got" a gas jet, "- said the young man.
Facebook shares video of the detention of the suspect. At a press conference overnight, police confirmed that residents helped apprehend the suspect. "With the help of residents, the suspect was apprehended, he is now in custody," police said. "Police were working the same street, same neighborhood. There were just more people, they were more lucky," the guards admitted.
Mikutavicius did not resist, but tried to flee. There were rumors that the suspect bit off his tongue during the arrest, but police could not confirm this information, only saying that he was examined by doctors.
