Sweden will step up its support for Ukraine.

The Swedish government has decided to end development aid to Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Liberia and Bolivia. These funds will now be used to support Ukraine. This was announced at a press conference by the Swedish Minister of Foreign Trade and International Development Cooperation Benjamin Dusa.

"We see that next year Ukraine will face many challenges. The people of Ukraine are facing the harshest winter since the beginning of the war. This is a decisive moment for the history of Europe," the minister explained the decision of the kingdom's authorities.

The amount of aid to be given to the five countries would have been 700 million kroner ($74.39 million) in 2026 and 900 million kroner ($95.64 million) in 2027. The states will not receive funds from Sweden after August 31, 2026. The reallocation of money is expected to bring the kingdom's non-military support for Ukraine to 2 billion kroner ($212.55 million).

The Swedish government earlier said the countries' development aid budget would be cut from 56 billion kroner to 53 billion kroner ($5.95 billion to $5.63 billion) over the next year. The government will also close Swedish embassies in Bolivia, Liberia and Zimbabwe, whose main activities have been focused on aid.
