Lithuania Talks To US About Recognizing Lukashenko's Actions As Terrorism

Washington is ready to help get Lithuanian trucks back.

Air smuggling from Belarus to Lithuania does not stop. Prime Minister of the Baltic country Inga Ruginenė said that she received confirmation - the U.S. will support Lithuania, which is trying to return tractor-trailers stuck in Belarus. According to the head of the Lithuanian government, they are already talking to the Americans about the possibility of recognizing Minsk's hybrid attacks as terrorist actions, writes Delfi.

"I am glad that I have already communicated directly with the Americans, I really hope that a face-to-face meeting will take place soon, I think we have a lot to talk about. (...) To date, I have assurances that the Americans will help us. The fact that Belarus is holding the transport of our carriers hostage today, that weather probes from Belarus are flying towards our strategic facilities is not acceptable to anyone," Prime Minister told reporters.

"We say that these actions should be recognized as terrorism," Ruginenė remarked.

Because of frequent closures of the airport in Vilnius, the Finnish airline Finnair has already announced the abolition of one evening flight from Helsinki to Vilnius. This decision of the company will be valid until the end of 2026. According to the Prime Minister, Lithuania has offered airlines to relocate flights to Kaunas on favorable terms, but it is up to the carriers to make the final decisions. "Airlines decide whether to change the direction, someone stays, someone seriously discusses changing the airport to Kaunas, someone adjusts the schedule," Ruginenė noted. "From our side, the main thing is to offer discounts and good conditions so that air carriers would be comfortable, we understand that we will share the financial burden with them," the Prime Minister added.

Because of air smuggling, Vilnius airport has to be closed at night for the second month. The last time the airport did not work on Thursday night, a massive attack was also recorded last Sunday.
