Two New Countries Will Buy U.S. Weapons For Ukraine

NATO's secretary general revealed the details.

Australia and New Zealand will now also buy American weapons for Ukraine under the PURL initiative. This was informed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

He said that Australia will allocate $63 million dollars for the purchase of American weapons for the AFU, and New Zealand - $8.7 million dollars. Unfortunately, he did not specify what kind of American weapons and military equipment the Armed Forces of Ukraine would receive at the expense of these states.

Rutte emphasized that the accession of new countries to the PURL initiative means that there will be no interruption in the supply of weapons, military equipment and ammunition to Kiev.

It should be noted that the PURL initiative was previously designed only for NATO countries. Some states of this Alliance make contributions, which are then used to buy weapons needed by Ukraine from the United States. After receiving the money, the United States transfers the weapons to the buyers, and the buyers send them to Kiev. But Australia and New Zealand are not NATO members, yet they have joined the PURL initiative, which shows that they are very helpful to Ukraine in its fight against the Russian occupiers.

At the same time, Italy recently announced that it will stop buying weapons from the U.S. for Ukraine under PURL. Rome believes it should focus on implementing a new peace plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine, which the administration of US President Donald Trump has drafted.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani is confident that Ukraine will need other types of assistance, such as security guarantees, if a peace agreement is signed. But Italy will continue to provide Kiev with economic, financial and humanitarian aid.
