Spain has deployed Crow systems in Lithuania designed to detect, monitor and neutralize enemy drones.
This was announced by the Lithuanian Defense Ministry, reports European Truth.
The systems, located at the airbase in Šiauliai, are operated by the tactical aviation unit "Wolf" of the Spanish Air and Space Forces.
The nine-member team constantly monitors its assigned airspace in an effort to protect NATO's eastern border from unidentified drones and balloons.
The Crow system uses a combination of radars, cameras, sensors and electronic warfare, creating a "smart shield" to protect critical infrastructure, airports and military installations.
"Spain's consistent decisions to contribute to air defense in the Baltic region are a clear demonstration of NATO's political will and commitment to collective defense. Such actions by Allies reinforce the deterrent effect, send an unambiguous signal of Alliance unity and are essential for the security of Lithuania and the entire eastern flank," said Lithuanian Defense Minister Robert Kaunas.
In late November, Spain took over NATO's Baltic air patrol mission at the Lithuanian Air Force base in Šiauliai.
