Yevhen Afnagel: Ukraine Is Capable Of Winning This War

  • 30.12.2025, 12:36

Belarusians and Ukrainians are fighting the evil empire together.

The site Charter97.org asked ex-political prisoner, coordinator of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Evgeny Afnagel to summarize the results of the passing year 2025:

- The main events for our entire region are now taking place in Ukraine. Russia's inability, despite all the resources it has, to make any minimal progress is obvious. The Ukrainian armed forces are holding the front and deterring offensive attempts, preventing major enemy breakthroughs.

Ukraine has changed the logic of war - from the front to the rear, from strength to vulnerability. We see the successful use of advanced modern technologies, including marine drones and drones that hit objects that are 1,500 kilometers away from the front line. In the future, the range could double, thanks to Flamingo missiles. More than 140 attacks on oil refineries and oil depots during the year, strikes on ports and military airfields, huge problems already faced by the Russian economy, budget deficit, hidden mobilization - all these factors clearly show that Ukraine, with the help of Europe, is able not just to withstand, but to win this war.

The most important result of the year - despite the enormous difficulties, Ukrainians show miracles of resilience, firmness and heroism. According to polls, 70% of the country's residents will not accept the loss of territory and peace on Putin's terms, while Russians are increasingly saying that the war will end in disaster for their country. Moreover, they say not only ordinary people, but also well-known economists and military men.

An important result of the year for Belarusians was the release of some political prisoners. Sanctions and pressure on the dictator bring their results - Lukashenko is forced to negotiate and release hostages. If both Belarusians and Western countries maintain their firm and principled position towards the regime, in 2026 we will see all political prisoners at liberty and achieve an end to repression and a possibility to return to their country for those who were forced to leave it.

- Who do you consider to be the main hero of the passing year?

- Belarusians and Ukrainians who are fighting the "evil empire" - on the front, under occupation, in captivity, in exile. Those who oppose our common enemy by any available means. Those who have not only kept faith in themselves and their people, but also pass it on to others. I often talk to people in Belarus and never cease to be amazed at how they, being actually in the occupied territory, realizing that at any moment they can be imprisoned, remain faithful to their ideals, support each other, oppose the dictator, speak the Belarusian language, read independent media. They are not only the heroes of the passing year, but also the hope of the coming year, the year of great changes for all of us.
