Lavrov And The Russian Defense Ministry Have "quarreled"

  • 30.12.2025, 9:26

Strange math from the Kremlin.

Yesterday, December 29, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's residence in Valdai was allegedly attacked by Ukrainian drones, but even reports from the Russian Defense Ministry refute this.

The contradiction was brought to the attention of Ukrainian and Russian Telegram channels, writes Dialog.UA.

The Russian Defense Ministry initially said that on the night of December 29, Russian air defense allegedly shot down 89 Ukrainian UAVs over Russian territory, including 49 over the territory of the Bryansk region and 18 over the territory of the Novgorod region. Lavrov further issued a statement saying that on the night of Dec. 29, Russian air defenses allegedly shot down 91 Ukrainian drones that attacked the state residence of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region.

The Russian foreign minister also said that "Russia will reconsider its negotiating position in response to the attack on Putin's residence." He said that Russia "reserves the right to retaliate against Ukraine."

Thereby, the statements of the Russian Defense Ministry and Lavrov contradict each other; moreover, residents of Valdai, where Putin's residence is located, did not hear the explosions, Russian Telegram channels wrote.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on his Facebook page called the Kremlin's claims that Ukrainian drones allegedly attacked Putin's residence in Valdai a fake. In his opinion, Moscow is thus trying to derail all the achievements of Ukraine and the United States in negotiations on ending the war. The Ukrainian leader believes that the new Russian propaganda fake serves as an excuse for new strikes by the Russian army on Ukraine, as well as for refusing to end the war.

The new Kremlin fake began to spread immediately after the meeting between President Vladimir Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, which took place on December 28 in Florida. At that meeting, they discussed a plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine. According to Trump, the talks were good and the sides were "close to an agreement."
