Ukraine will not back down.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said that Ukraine cannot "just withdraw" from its territories, as it contradicts the legislation and the position of Ukrainian society.
He said this in an interview with Fox News.
"We cannot just withdraw from there, it contradicts our legislation. We can't just walk out of our territories. It's not just a matter of law. People live there. Three hundred thousand people live there. We can't just lose people. We can't get out of there, because hundreds of people are wounded, dozens of people are dead. So it is not only a question of law," the Ukrainian president said.
Zelensky also noted that the peace plan is 90% agreed. Only two points remain unresolved, the key of which is the territorial issue.
"We have a problem with one issue. It is the territories. It is a complicated issue, but even with that - with territories, even though we have different views with the Russians on this issue. Not with Americans, but with Russians," the president said.
Presidents Zelensky and Trump met at the Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on December 28, after which they held a video conference with European leaders.
After the talks with Zelensky, Trump said there had been "a lot of progress." According to him, the issue of Donbass remains unresolved. He also said he was ready to come to Ukraine if it would help to conclude a peace agreement.
The Ukrainian head of state said after the talks that the peace plan was 90% agreed, Ukraine-U.S. security guarantees - in full. In January, the Ukrainian and US delegations will hold a new meeting to finalize the issue of the peace plan, the Ukrainian president said.
