But withheld the details.
The US struck an unnamed "major facility" on the coast of Venezuela. This was stated by President Donald Trump, commenting on the situation, informs CNN.
He said that the operation took place a few days ago and was directed against some important infrastructure related to illegal activities.
Trump said that it was a large factory or port facility from which ships were leaving, and as a result of the strike the facility was completely disabled.
The president emphasized that the strike was "very powerful" and effectively destroyed "the supply zone on the coast".
Later, speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago residence, he clarified that there was a large explosion at the port facility in an area where he said boats were being loaded with drugs.
Trump declined to disclose details of the operation. He would not answer the question of who exactly was behind the strike - the U.S. military or intelligence agencies. The president said only that he knows who conducted the operation, but deliberately does not want to name the details.
At the same time, a US official on condition of anonymity said that the president was referring to a facility associated with drug trafficking. However, no further details about the nature of the target, the strike itself or the consequences of the operation were provided.
At the same time, there have been no official reports from Venezuela about the destruction of a "large object" matching Trump's description.
