40% of Russian residents believe in the existence of secret organizations that have power over the world. This follows from the results of a survey published on December 3, conducted by the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research (VTsIOM).

"40% of Russians believe in the existence of secret organizations, 46% do not believe," the material says.

According to an infographic published by VCIOM, since 2022, when the Russian army invaded Ukraine on a full-scale, the share of those who believe in a world government has increased by three percentage points.

"Belief in conspiracy theories usually increases in periods of deep social upheaval and uncertainty. Conspiracy theories fill an information vacuum and offer people simple answers to complex questions, be it the course of world events, the motives behind political decisions or the causes of economic crises," the sociologists explain the findings.

The survey was conducted on October 11 by telephone interview using a random sample of 1,600 Russians aged 18 and older. The sampling error does not exceed 2.5%.
