Through the fall of 2027.
The EU Council and the European Parliament have agreed on a regulation that envisages a phased ban on imports of Russian natural gas - LNG - until the end of 2026, and pipeline gas until the fall of 2027.
The press service of the Council of the European Union reported on December 3 the press service of the Council of the European Union.
The EU and representatives of the European Parliament have reached a preliminary agreement on the regulation, which provides for a phased ban on imports of Russian natural gas. A complete ban on LNG is to come into force at the end of 2026, and on pipeline gas in the fall of 2027.
A transitional period will be established for already concluded contracts, and such agreements can be changed only for technical reasons - without the possibility of increasing supply volumes.
In addition, imports of Russian gas and deliveries within the transition period will be possible only after obtaining the relevant approval. Exceptions have been introduced for certain supplier countries with significant export volumes to the EU.
In addition, the regulation provides for penalties for non-compliance and allows for the temporary suspension of the import ban in the event of a serious threat to the energy security of individual EU members. This is only possible in case of emergency, for a short period of time and only for short-term contracts.
