The list will expand.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is preparing new migration restrictions and signaled that the administration will soon expand the list of states whose citizens will be banned from entering the United States.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
The decision is being discussed amid heightened security requirements and revised visa procedures following a recent incident in Washington.
Trump is stepping up his migration drive
An updated list of countries should be available soon, security agencies said. Now there is a full blockage for citizens of 12 nations and partial restrictions for seven others.
At the same time, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced it was suspending all applications from natives of 19 countries already under restrictions, including green card applications.
Review of Permits and Reasons for Tightening
The USCIS policy memorandum indicates that the U.S. will conduct an extensive review of permits issued to newcomers from these nations since the Biden administration began.
The reason for the expedited process was an attack in Washington that left one service member dead and another in serious condition.
The suspect was named as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwala, who arrived from Afghanistan in 2021.
The administration's policy statements and plans
Trump and his supporters blamed the previous administration, saying new restrictions are needed.
The president has stressed that he is considering expanding the travel ban, revoking citizenship for some naturalized migrants and eliminating federal benefits for non-citizens.
The steps being discussed include expanding one of the most controversial immigration policies in his first term, which was in place during his first term and upheld by the Supreme Court.
Which countries are under the ban
Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem said she recommended Trump strengthen the measures and expand the list of states.
She said: "I just met with the president. I am recommending a total travel ban on every damn country that has flooded our nation with murderers, leeches and drug addicts seeking their own privilege."
The countries now under full blockade are Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, and under partial blockades are Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
We recall that the U.S. delegation visited Moscow again to discuss potential ways to end the war, but the meeting ended without tangible results and, as the Kremlin emphasizes, there is no talk of possible contacts between Trump and Putin at this stage, indicating that there is no real movement in the talks.
