What is known.
Former First Secretary of the Belarusian Embassy in the United States Dmitry Ilyukhin was convicted under the article on "promotion of extremist activity" and sent to the colony, writes "Nasha Niva".
Dmitry Ilyukhin is 35 years old. He comes from Novopolotsk, where in 2007 he graduated from school with a social and economic bias.
He received higher education in some of the best universities of the region: first he studied at the law faculty of BSU, then transferred to the prestigious Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), which he graduated from in 2012. He also completed an internship at the Free University of Berlin and a master's degree at the BSU Faculty of International Relations.
Dmitry started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2012. He worked as an attaché in the consular department, after which he spent almost three years at the Belarusian Embassy in Egypt as third secretary. Returning to Minsk, he became the first secretary in the Europe and North America department. And in 2019, Ilyukhin traveled to Canada as first secretary.
In Ottawa, he was a member of the election commission for the 2020 presidential election. According to the official protocol, his precinct was defeated by Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who won 321 votes (91%) to Lukashenko's 21 votes (6%).
In August 2021, Ilyukhin served as consul in New York and then as first secretary of the Belarusian Embassy in Washington. In April 2022, Dmitry left the diplomatic service.
After his dismissal, he worked at the International Federation of Red Cross Societies (IFRC) office in Minsk, where he was promoted to Senior National Society Development Officer in September 2024.
In this position, he was actually the Geneva representative responsible for the reform and professionalization of the Belarus Red Cross Society. His work came during the crisis period, when IFRC suspended the membership of the BOCC because of scandals around the head of the organization Dzmitry Shevtsov. Probably, Iliukhin's task was to bring the Belarusan structure back to the international standards of neutrality and independence.
It is not known when Iliukhin was detained, but it happened about a year ago. Dzmitry was tried in Minsk City Court for "promotion of extremist activity" (parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code). The sentence came into force in December 2025.
Now the man is serving a sentence in the colony - he hasn't appeared on social networks for about a year, and his account in Telegram was deleted. His wife and small child are waiting for him at home.
