And 42 other countries.
The U.S. authorities intend to change the rules of entry into the country for citizens of 43 countries, including Russia and Belarus. This is reported by The New York Times with reference to sources familiar with the plans of the U.S. State Department.
According to the publication, the countries are planned to be divided into three categories depending on the level of restrictions.
The first category will include 11 countries, whose citizens will be completely banned from entering the United States. They are Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, Yemen and Venezuela.
The second category, according to the NYT, includes Russia and Belarus, as well as Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, South Sudan and Turkmenistan.
Citizens of these countries are planned to be allowed entry only in limited cases - primarily wealthy businessmen. Tourist travel and immigration will be closed to them.
The third group includes countries to which the U.S. is ready to give 60 days to eliminate the identified shortcomings, including the refusal to provide data on persons entering the country. Based on the results of that timeframe, they could be moved to either the first or second category.
The interim list includes Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Sao Tome and Principe, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.
U.S. President Donald Trump's plans to introduce so-called "red" and "orange" lists of countries became known last week. Now, the NYT notes, the full list of states that could fall under the new restrictions has become known.
The initiative to introduce new entry restrictions fits within US President Donald Trump's broader migration policy. During his previous presidential term, the administration had already imposed sweeping restrictions on the entry of citizens of certain countries, including the so-called travel ban, justifying the measures on national security grounds and insufficient migration controls by foreign countries.
After Trump's return to the White House, his team announced its intention to tighten migration policy, expand deportations and revise entry rules for countries that U.S. authorities assessed as not providing sufficient data on their As part of this approach, the administration also announced the introduction of "red" and "orange" lists of states with different levels of restrictions.
White House officials have previously said that the new policy will prioritize economically beneficial migration, while tourist and humanitarian entries from a number of countries are planned to be significantly reduced or completely closed.
