Seven flights were diverted.

The airport of the German city of Hannover in the federal state of Lower Saxony has been temporarily closed due to drone sightings. As wrote the dpa news agency citing an airport spokesman on Saturday, December 27, departures and landings were halted the night before at 21:47, with the ban in effect until 00:16.

Seven planes were diverted to Paderborn, Bremen, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt am Main. Because two planes were unable to land in Hannover, their departures from that airport - to Frankfurt and Paris - were also canceled Saturday morning.

Official reports with details regarding the drone sighting are not yet available. According to the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, one drone was first spotted in the vicinity of the airport. An hour later, two more aircraft were approaching the air harbor: those waiting in the terminal saw them with the naked eye, the newspaper said.

Hannover Airport stopped work because of drones in November

In early November, Hannover Airport also suspended work for 45 minutes because of a drone detected near it. At the time, the UAV was seen by pilots of an airliner coming in for a landing and reported it to airport officials. Apparently, the drone was flying over a nearby industrial area.
