And announced a new phone call with Putin.
Russia, which has been trying to take over Ukraine for almost four years, is caught in a difficult economic situation. White House President Donald Trump said this in an interview with Politico ahead of a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. "Their economy is in dire straits, very dire straits," the American president said. In early December, the Russian Finance Ministry reported an increase in the budget deficit for January-November 2025 to 4.276 trillion rubles, 11.8 times more than in the same period last year.
Trump also said he was going to have another conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future and would talk to him "as much as he wants." "I think everything will go well with Putin [as well as with Zelensky], too," he noted.
It became known on Friday that Zelensky was going to meet with Trump about ending the war with Russia at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on Dec. 28. According to the Ukrainian president, he will bring with him an updated draft of a 20-point peace plan. The document includes the creation of a demilitarized zone in Donbass, and the meeting is expected to focus on US security guarantees.
