Lukashenko Suffers Failure After Failure

  • 26.12.2025, 9:09

Six promises that turned out to be lies in the passing year.

At the end of the year, "Salidarnasts" listed the items on the country's leadership's agenda for 2025, which were supposed to be "achievements." What happened in practice?

"With the new Constitution, I will not work with you as "president"

Since August 2020, Alexander Lukashenko has promised many times that he will not run for "president" next time. For example, the ruler said:

- I am not making any Constitution for myself. I will not work with you as "president" with the new Constitution.

The constitutional reform was carried out, but Lukashenko did not fulfill his promise. Elections in January 2025 were held in a special operation mode: in the conditions of repression and intimidation of the society the ruler went for the seventh term.

GDP growth up to $100 billion in order "to have a salary of $1 thousand and not to slip into the poverty trap.

In 2018, Lukashenko said:

- In the next five-year period, we need to reach the GDP target of $100 billion. Only this will make it possible to have a $1,000 salary and not fall into the poverty trap. Therefore, today's sentiments of "at least to live until 2025" are unacceptable.

It's 2026, and the GDP of Belarus is still at the level of $75-76 billion.

Growth of the economy in 2025 by 4.1%

A failure not only by the results of the five-year plan, but also specifically in the past year. The authorities planned GDP growth of 4.1% for 2025, but after eleven months there is only 1.3%.

Inflation plans have not been fulfilled either: they planned no more than 5%, but so far it is about 7%.

"Quiet, calm and necessarily stable"

At the beginning of the year, the ruler said:

-2025 is the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. As worthy heirs of the victorious Soviet people, we will do everything to make Belarus peaceful, quiet and stable.

In practice, Belarus in the past year again became the center of instability in the region: the closure of the border with Poland, the closure of the border with Lithuania, mass repression and drone attacks (only in Brest voblast at least 42 cases of detection of drones and their parts).

Rise in the salaries of doctors up to 150%, and teachers - up to 100% of the national average

The authorities talked a lot about it in the previous year. Finance Minister Yuri Seliverstov stated specifically: the average salary of doctors by 2025 should reach 150% of the average for the economy, teachers - 100%.

The promises were made on the eve of the "presidential election," but how are things at the end of this year?

According to the National Statistics Committee, the average salary in September amounted to Br2,746. For teachers - 2,440. Data on the wages of medics vary, but there is no smell of 150% of the national average there.

Belarusian electric cars

In 2022, Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov said that Belarus "should master the complete base of its own electric car" by 2025. At the beginning of 2024, Lukashenko demanded that Belarusian electric cars be put into mass production in 2025.

The "Belarusian electric car" project as an example for verticalists to build a successful career

But in the outgoing year, BelGi CEO Gennady Svidersky said that it was too expensive and "economically inexpedient." Instead of the electric car, they received criminal cases initiated by the State Control Committee against representatives of the Academy of Sciences.

Another failure of the authorities against the background of the absence of any notable successes.
