Russia has stepped up attacks on the frontline and strikes on peaceful cities to pressure the US and Europe during negotiations. Despite massive assaults in all directions, Ukrainian forces are holding their positions without strategic losses.
Army general and former head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service Nikolai Malomuzh told "Channel 24" that the effective defense and counterattacks of Ukrainian troops deprive the Kremlin of arguments to impose its terms in the negotiation process.
- There are individual advances of hundreds of meters, which Russia passes off as an offensive. Despite the concentration of efforts in the northern Slobozhansky direction and attacks from Sumy, there is no success. On the Volchansk direction, which Putin perceived as "the first victory", also nothing has worked out. In the Kupyansk direction, where our president was, the situation is also under control," Malomuzh stressed.
In Liman, the enemy groups that entered the city have been neutralized, and although there is active fighting with variable success in some areas, neither tactical nor strategic breakthroughs have been achieved by the Russians.
Russia is also trying to attack Slavyansk from the north in order to further advance on Kramatorsk and deep into the Donetsk region to the south. The Russians conducted massive assaults 3 - 4 days ago, but thanks to the powerful fortifications and heights the enemy has no prospects.
- Konstantinovka is a key objective for the Russians as a bridgehead for the offensive on Kramatorsk from the south, it is a fortress city, which the enemy tried to attack and encircle. Ukrainian forces have carried out extremely complex operations there, neutralizing enemy efforts in brutal battles and constantly knocking the enemy out of the city," Malomuzh explained.
Does Russia have prospects for a breakthrough in the Pokrovsky direction?"
The Pokrovsky and Mirnograd directions are undergoing active fighting against a huge grouping. The Ukrainian defenders are holding the north of Pokrovsk, conducting counterattacks to the railroad and the center, daily destroying 100 - 150 enemy troops just in the city itself, which drains huge Russian resources.
On the flanks near Dobropillya there is fighting with counterattacks from both sides, where Ukraine has successes and even advances in some sectors. The enemy sometimes advances a bit, but Ukrainian forces repel attacks or create firing "raw zones".
At Mirnograd, a number of counterattacks have recently been conducted, throwing back the enemy and destroying his logistics and strike groups that were pulled up as a reserve, and in the Velykonovoselkivskyi direction, Ukrainian forces are strengthening their positions and counterattacks, although the situation there is difficult and the enemy is advancing west of Ugledar.
In the area of Vasilievka, Aleksandrovka and Dobropillya in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, there is major fighting, where it is critical to prevent the enemy from advancing into Dobropillya and seizing dominant heights to avoid the possibility of direct strikes on Zaporizhzhya.
- This complex agglomeration requires additional forces, but the front is being held - the enemy has no tactical advances. Therefore, Putin will have no arguments for pressure in the negotiation process when the Americans arrive with our agreed proposals. We will have arguments: we are standing, the enemy has no prospects, and the people of Ukraine are not giving up - this is our principled position in the negotiations," Malomuzh said.
