Belarusian Man Who Fought For Russia Was Convicted On Mercenary Articles

As part of the exchange in 2024, Ukraine handed over to Russia the captured Belarusian Maksim Zeziulchik, who fought on the side of the Russian Federation. After his return to Belarus, he was convicted under articles on mercenarism and treason and given at least 10 years, writes Dissidentby.
According to the initiative, after his return from captivity to Belarus in the fall of 2024, Maxim Zeziulchik was detained and convicted under articles on mercenarism and treason (Articles 133 and 356 of the Criminal Code). The trial was held in closed mode, and the materials of the criminal case are classified.
It is known that the sentence amounted to at least 10 years of imprisonment. Zeziulchik was sent to penal colony 17 in Shklov.
The Russian movement "Veterans of Russia" appealed to Alexander Lukashenko with a request to pardon Zeziulchik, calling him a "volunteer of the SVO". The appeal emphasizes that he allegedly served as a medical training instructor and was awarded the Russian medal "For Bravery."
The Russian Embassy in Belarus stated that its ability to "protect" Zeziulchik is limited due to the Belarusian citizenship of the convict, but the diplomatic department intends to seek the dismissal of charges under the article "Mercenarism".
