In Volyn, the court sentenced an agent of the Belarusian KGB, who spied on Ukrainian border guards, to 15 years in prison.
The Volyn regional prosecutor's office reported.
It was proved in court that a 25-year-old man in 2024 agreed to cooperate with a foreign intelligence service and by order of the Belarusian KGB carried out photo and video recording of defensive structures near the state border of Ukraine.
He sent the received materials to the curator, for which he received remuneration by bank card transfers.
In addition to photo and video recording of defense facilities in the border area of Volyn region, he performed additional tasks, acting covertly and confidentially. Such activities continued until May 2025.
As a result, the man was found guilty of high treason under martial law and sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation into the incident was conducted by the SBU in Volyn region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
It was proved in court that the man's actions posed a threat to Ukraine's defense capability in conditions of full-scale war.
The sentence was handed down under part two of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It will come into legal force after the deadline for appeal.
It should be noted that during the pre-trial investigation the accused was in custody.
