It is to replace the outdated Charles de Gaulle.
On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed plans to build a new, larger and more modern aircraft carrier to replace the outdated Charles de Gaulle and strengthen the country's status as a maritime power.
According to "European Pravda".
Macron, who first voiced these plans back in 2020, spoke to the military at the French base in Abu Dhabi, located near the Strait of Hormuz - a strategically important hub of the world's oil flows.
"The decision to launch this ambitious program was taken this week," Macron said, adding that the project would boost France's industrial base, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses.
Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin said on social network X that the new vessel is scheduled to enter service in 2038, around the time the Charles de Gaulle is due to "retire."
Remember, the current aircraft carrier began service in 2001, 15 years after the order was placed.
