Tusk On Security Guarantees For Ukraine: US Will Give Military Response If Russia Attacks Again

In Berlin, it became obvious that the US, Europe and Ukraine were on the same side.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that in case of a new Russian attack on Ukraine, the US will give Moscow a military response. This is stipulated in the security guarantees currently under discussion.
This is reported by Onet.
Results of talks in Berlin
Tusk said that at the Berlin meeting it became clear for the first time that the US, Europe and Ukraine "are on the same side."
He emphasized that the only real possibility to convince Russia to enter into serious talks on stopping the war or at least a ceasefire is to unite the entire West.
"It is extremely important that we, together with the Americans and Ukrainians, act as allies so that the Russians and (Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin - ed.) see that we cannot drive a wedge between the three sides," the prime minister said.
The territorial issue is for Ukraine to decide
The Polish prime minister said that potential territorial concessions remain an open and very complex issue that requires serious consideration by Ukraine.
He added that Poland would not exert any influence on the issue and that the decision could only be made based on the assessment and calculations of the Ukrainians themselves.
"Our task is to support them in these negotiations so that there can be no question of Russia winning this confrontation but it remains a difficult task," the official said, emphasizing that progress in the ongoing negotiations is evident.
Security guarantees
As Tusk explained, the Americans are convinced that together with Europe they will be able to "create serious security guarantees for Ukraine."
"I emphasized that from our point of view this is important because security guarantees for Ukraine are in a sense also security guarantees for Poland. Ukraine, which is threatened by renewed aggression, represents a great risk for Poland and for those countries that are close to the front line," the prime minister said.
The official said that the unambiguous statement by the U.S. side about its willingness to participate in the system of security guarantees for Ukraine was crucial.
Answering a question about the presence of international military forces in Ukraine as security guarantees, Tusk reiterated that Poland would have other tasks.
"We have to ensure the security of rising In any case, Poland will be a key node - not only Jasenka, but also our ports and all logistics in the reconstruction of Ukraine," the Polish prime minister said.
The prime minister added that in order for security guarantees for Ukraine to make real sense, Poland will inevitably be involved in logistics activities. According to him, everyone understands this point and there is no pressure on this issue.
"This is our decision, autonomous. Poland decides for itself where to send soldiers and where not to send them," he added.
The United States has made it clear that it is ready to respond to Russia militarily
The journalists asked Tusk whether security guarantees for Ukraine are really designed according to the principle of Article 5 of the NATO Alliance, which provides for mutual defense.
In response, a Polish official said such a statement would be an exaggeration, but Trump's special envoy Steve Whitkoff made it clear that the US would respond militarily in the event of new aggression from Russian Federation.
"This is the first time I've heard American negotiators say that Whitkoff has made it very clear that America will provide security guarantees to Ukraine in a way that leaves the Russians in no doubt that the American response will be military if Russia attacks Ukraine again. So, in a way, it's similar to Article 5, but I wouldn't invoke Article 5 directly because that can only complicate further negotiations. But the statement we heard today does have far-reaching implications," he replied.
