There will be a meeting in the US.

Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky says new talks between Kiev and Washington on a peace plan will take place this weekend in the United States. The conversation will take place after the U.S. holds consultations with the Russian Federation.

About this Zelensky declared answering questions from the media.

"Today-tomorrow we will finalize the documents, then the U.S. in the coming days will hold consultations with (the Russians - ed.), after that will hold consultations with the U.S. president, after that our teams will meet in the U.S. in the near future. I think maybe even on the weekend," the Ukrainian president said.

He added that after this it will be seen what will happen next. In particular, Ukraine will think about a meeting at the level of leaders, at least with US President Donald Trump.

The talks in Berlin and the path to a meeting with Trump

We will recall that on December 14 and 15, another round of talks between Ukraine, the United States and Europe on the US peace plan took place in Berlin.

It was directly attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump's special envoy Steve Whitkoff and the son-in-law of the US President Jared Kushner.

Based on information in the media and public statements, it is clear that the key issues at the moment are the issues of territories and security guarantees.

In particular, the United States requires Ukraine to withdraw from Donbass, to which Kiev still does not agree. Also, Washington offers security guarantees along the lines of NATO's Article 5. Zelensky has already said that the document on guarantees will be voted in the US Congress - there is an agreement on this.

In addition, on December 15, Europe presented its security guarantee plan for Ukraine. It has 6 key points and deals with military support, ceasefire control mechanism, obligation to respond in case of a repeated Russian attack on Ukraine, and a number of other points.
