Leo XIV accused the U.S. president of undermining the alliance between Europe and America.
Pope Leo XIV has rebuked US President Donald Trump that his recent statements jeopardize the long-standing alliance between Europe and America. This was reported by Sky News.
The occasion was an interview in which the White House chief said that Europe is in decline and that its leaders have become "weak." Asked by reporters whether he considered the plan presented by the US to resolve the war in Ukraine to be fair, the pontiff said he would prefer not to comment on the document. However, he emphasized that some provisions of the US initiative, in his opinion, could dramatically change the nature of relations between the US and the EU.
The Pope noted that Washington's recent public statements look like an attempt to weaken the alliance between the two sides, which is important for the future. He recalled that the plan proposed by Donald Trump's administration is an initiative of the American president, who has the right to promote his own decisions, but at the same time, the document contains provisions that, in his opinion, will cause mixed reactions both in the US and outside.
