The Chairman of the Mejlis recalled the norms of international law.

Every world politician should not perfectly know the geography or history of Crimea and its indigenous people, the head of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov wrote in his Telegram channel in response to US President Donald Trump's statement that Crimea is "washed by four oceans".

"I do not insist that every world politician should know perfectly the geography or history of Crimea and its indigenous Crimean Tatar people," Chubarov noted.

At the same time, he believes that he has every right to expect from them an elementary understanding of the basics of international law. He also reminded that it is necessary to strictly adhere to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, on which international relations are based.

"We are talking about the sovereign equality of states, the inadmissibility of the threat or use of force, non-interference in internal affairs, the duty of states to cooperate among themselves, the right of peoples to self-determination, as well as the fulfillment of international obligations in good faith," he added.

The chairman of the Mejlis emphasized that all these principles are aimed at preserving the rights of the Crimean Tatar people to self-determination.
