BBC Director General Tim Davey Resigns.

  • 9.11.2025, 23:06

The reason is the Trump documentary scandal.

The director general of the British broadcasting corporation BBC Tim Davey and the executive director of the news service Deborah Turness have resigned. This is reported by the corporation itself.

The resignations follow a barrage of criticism of the BBC over a documentary called "Trump: a second chance?" released last year. The Telegraph newspaper published leaked evidence that the movie edited two parts of Trump's speech in a way that made it appear as if he was explicitly calling for riots at the Capitol in January 2021.

Tim Davey said in an address to staff that the decision to quit was his own and he was grateful for the support of the board. He acknowledged that "some mistakes were made" and as CEO he is responsible for them. Davey will remain in office for a few more months to ensure a smooth leadership transition. He led the corporation in September 2020.

Deborah Turness, who has run the news service since 2022, said the scandal had reached a stage where it was "damaging to the BBC - an institution I love". She emphasized that the responsibility lies with her, while assuring that accusations of systemic bias at BBC News are false.
