Because of hybrid attacks.

The European Union has started preparing a new, already 20th package of sanctions against Russia because of its aggressive war against Ukraine. This issue was discussed by Lithuanian Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitekunas and European Commissioner for Financial Services and Savings and Investment Union Maria Luis Albuquerque, the press service of the Lithuanian ministry said on Friday, November 7, writes "Deutsche Welle".

Waitekunas said the EU should continue to put pressure not only on Russia but also on Belarus, given the "regular hybrid attacks." "We are pleased that at the end of October another package of sanctions was agreed at the EU level, already the 19th, but further pressure needs to be increased, in particular on the Russian energy and financial sector. Therefore, we should start serious discussions on the next package of sanctions," the Lithuanian minister said.

Vaitekunas emphasized that the EU should tighten the measures against Belarus, "bringing them in line with those in place against Russia and introducing additional restrictions." According to Albuquerque, the process of preparing new measures against Minsk is still at an early stage.

"We are working with third countries, as among them there are those that facilitate the circumvention of sanctions," said the European Commissioner, quoted by the TASS agency.

The last, 19th package of sanctions was approved by the EU on October 23. It includes a ban on imports of liquefied natural gas from 2027, restrictions on 117 vessels belonging to the so-called shadow fleet, as well as restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats within the EU.

Moscow calls the Western sanctions illegal. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian economy "functions under a huge number of restrictions" and has already developed "a certain immunity" to them.
