The US President is concerned about the 77-year-old businessman's health.

US President Donald Trump during his meeting with Chinese President Si Jinping in South Korea raised the fate of Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai, who is currently imprisoned. This was reported by Reuters.

An anonymous administration official noted that Trump returned to the topic of Jimmy Lai as promised, and both sides engaged in a discussion on the issue. However, the conversation did not delve into specific release conditions, and the main topics centered on the 77-year-old businessman's health after a lengthy trial involving allegations of threatening national security.

The discussion reportedly took less than five minutes. Another source emphasized that Xi Jinping listened to Trump's request. The U.S. president expressed hope that Lai's release could have a positive impact on bilateral relations between Washington and Pektin, as well as improve China's image on the international stage.

On Oct. 30, Trump and Xi Jinping held talks in South Korea. The meeting lasted one hour and 40 minutes.

The US president rated the talks as 12 out of 10. At its conclusion, the US leader reduced some tariffs for China, announced a new trade deal between the two countries and revealed that he had agreed to address Russia's war in Ukraine together with Chinese authorities. Xi Jinping was also satisfied with the meeting and said he intends to continue working with Trump for the prosperity of both countries.
