However, only for their own vans.
With about 5,000 Lithuanian trucks and semi-trailers remaining in Belarus and Minsk banning them from traveling in the country, Lithuania plans to open the closed border checkpoint "Šalčininkai" for carriers, where about 500 vehicles are parked. This is reported by LRT.
Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovich said that it is planned to pass a message to Belarus through Lithuanian border guards about the possibility of using this particular checkpoint for this particular transport.
"A large group is (...) at the Shalchininkai checkpoint, there on the Belarusian side, in Beniakonyi. (...) We assume that vehicles will be able to start moving through this point, as they cannot go anywhere else. Both drivers and trailers are there," the head of the Interior Ministry told the radio station Ziniu radijas.
How the Belarusian authorities will react, he doesn't know.
According to the minister, about 500 vehicles are parked near "Šalčininkai." About 5 thousand more Lithuanian trucks are scattered throughout the territory of Belarus.
