It helped circumvent sanctions.
The 33-year-old Belarusian citizen Yana Leonova, detained for her involvement in shipments of American aircraft parts to Russia in circumvention of export control measures, has been handed over by the French authorities to the United States.
The relevant information was disseminated by the press office of the U.S. Department of Justice.
According to it, Yana Leonova was "extradited from France on charges of conspiracy to violate export controls for smuggling, money laundering, and fraud against the United States."
Last Wednesday, November 5, she appeared in court in the D.C. metropolitan area.
According to U.S. authorities, after Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, Leonova, with the participation of U.S. citizens, "illegally exported flight electronics and other aviation equipment from the United States to Russia."
It is alleged that it was used in a "private aircraft" belonging to a U.S.-sanctioned company where Leonova previously worked.
